LONDON, England - 1,671 members of the public have complained to the Advertising Standards Authority about a new KFC ad running in only in England. SO what type of commercial gets the Britoners' ire up? Was there sex going on? No. Maybe some underage smoking or drinking? Wrong again. What about violence? It had to be violence then, right? Wrong.
Offended viewers said it encouraged bad manners in children by making it appear funny to sing or speak while eating, and 41 of those who complained said their children had aped the ad.
Are you now a little bit curious about the ad? Was it as bad as everyone is claiming it is? Is it really worse than the pope in a safe sex ad? Well, you won't be able to see it. KFC has aid that the ad has run its life and will not be re-aired. The above image is the only one that is known to have been obtained from the offending commercial, curtesy Adrants.
Posted by aakaakaak at June 1, 2005 03:00 PMAh well, Brits have thought Americans rude forever and the ad just confirmed it...
Posted by: JulieB at June 1, 2005 07:01 PMWell of course they were offended, and rightly so. It's bad enough having to hear someone elses food being chewed, but having to watch it being chewed is disgusting.
Posted by: Patty-Jo at June 1, 2005 08:32 PMI'm not surprised they are upset by this. After all, Winston Churchill did say, "When you have to kill a man, it costs nothing to be polite."

Posted by: Jay at June 2, 2005 08:24 AMI wish that Americans would get upset at such things. My father, gone for many years now, would get quite upset at the use of "damn" or "hell" on films or TV. I miss him and I miss his values. We were probably better off when we weren't so accepting of any and all cultural shifts.
Posted by: Nickie Goomba at June 2, 2005 01:43 PMNo doubt, Nickie.
I dunno though, twin beds? Are we going to make married couples sleep in twin beds again?
say, "no" . . .
What's wrong with twin beds?
Posted by: Patty-Jo at June 3, 2005 02:00 AMInteresting how priorities differ from one Country to the next.
I believe a lot of advertising has reached the dregs.
I have absolutely no desire to see the inside of someones mouth when they are masticating their food, spitting toothpaste or other stuff, or gargling.
What next? A bathroom commercial advertising Kaeopectate? Hope not.
