Spying on America

There have been recent accusations, particularly the day after the Iraqi elections, that the Bush administration has conducted illegal spying operations against people on U.S. soil and American citizens. I find it rather suspect that something like this would come the day after the Iraqi elections. It's even more suspect that Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi and others had been briefed on this a long time ago but did and said nothing until now.

No, I do not suggest they conspired with Bush on this. These are the people that will dig at anything dealing with the president like a rabid gerbil chasing after the stick in Al Gore's backside. I'm suggesting they did nothing at the time because there was nothing illegal. I'm suggesting they held it until now because it would prevent a piece of good news to be suppressed. I can't say that they conspired to take action now, but I can say their speeches and presentations are pretty well rehearsed for being created on the spot.

As for the facts; there is only one I can speak on from first hand knowledge. The NSA and other agencies have listened in on conversations between the U.S. and other nations since well before 1993. I have heard that this was a fall back from the days of the cold war and an attempt to catch Russian spies. I've also heard this was done to eavesdrop on members of the United Nations legally. I don't know which is the truth, but I do know it was in effect throughout the terms of several presidents.

I have nothing further to say on the matter as I don't know what I can or can not say on the matter that violates secure intelligence laws.

I still think the only people who are opposed to all this are those who have something to hide, and those with an elevated sense of their own importance. The government doesn't give a rat's patootie about our personal lives. Their focus is national security, as it should be.

Tho what about the lack of court approved warrants? It is perfectly common for the government to conduct intelligence gathering like this than get a court approved warrant later. I think it's 19 out of a thousand that weren't able to get a warrant.

Basically he did what Nixon did, on a larger scale, and with more consequences than an election.

He violated the 4th amendment, and the Trust of Americans.

Had he said, we will be conducting court approved spying, I would be fine and dandy. But this cloak and dagger stuff, followed by his "what you gonna do about it" attitude urks the heck out of me.

What both Bush and Cheney say they have done and under what acts they believe they were working under are more than likely a farce. To hear them talk about this act and that act is to realize they both have no clue about the subject.

Under the appropriate law it is not required to seek and/or obtain a warrant before or after the fact if the line monitoring is happening "internationally" and in conjunction with other "outside of the U.S." covert operations.

The president and vice president may THINK they were going above and beyond in their spying tactics, but were more than likely doing the same thing every president before them was doing.

...It's okay though. Most politicians are completely ignorant as to the rules and regulations of the world of "spying".

BUSH IS DOING WHAT THE PRESIDENT IS ELECTED FOR: TO DEFEND THE UNITED SATATES AGAINST ALL ENEMIES, BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC. YOUR TYPE FALL IN THE LATTER CLASSIFICATION. TO THOSE WHO BACK OUR PRESIDENT AND HIS POLICIES, I SAY THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS AMERICA.......
