Migrating Politicians

Last night there was a slight shift in the democratic party. It was a change that I believed should happen for much longer than even the DNC thought about it. They kicked out their token Jew, Joe Lieberman. Sure, there's probably another Jewish senator or representative floating around or something, but Joe was the active and popular one.

I wonder if they realize how this action is going to look to other Jews in the U.S.? Will they get the impression that democrats are Jew haters? They're definitely not on Israel's side these days. Many of them even side with Hezbollah, the terrorist organization bent on the destruction of every man, woman and child that calls themselves a Jew inside of Israel. That might be pretty damning come election time. Time will tell the tale.

Aside from the potentially racist connotations of this, I believe it is a win-win for both parties. For a long time I've said that Lieberman wasn't a Democrat in the sense of what the party is today. I wouldn't really call him a Republican, but he is definitely not in the same skin as Howard "I hate all Republicans" Dean. It is a good sign that he is leaving the party. Although it was a forced move, it more accurately represents the political landscape.

Seeing as how Lieberman never really chose sides except his own, independent is the perfect place for him to be sitting. Connecticut has a heavy independent voting population. He has a long-standing history with them. There's even a slight chance the Republican party will pull their representative and shuffle some loose change his way. Everybody considers the republican candidate an impossible bid anyway. It makes common sense. (Okay, yeah. I just jinxed it by calling it common sense. Watch the Republicans try and attack him now. *shrug*)

The next step I could possibly pray for is for the Republicans to do what the democrats did and boot someone that desparately needs it. Please go join Blogs for McCain's Opponent today. How on God's green earth can you cozy up to Ted "The Anti-Conservative" Kennedy, like he does on those talk radio commercial spots, and still claim to be a Republican? At the very least he needs to be placed in the same situation as Lieberman, as an independent. Republican maverick is not the right term to be used with him. Liberal Democrat would be much closer to the truth.

It might even be possible to reign in the democratic bloggers as well on this issue. I'm sure they'd enjoy helping take down a republican, even if it is McCain. I doubt McCain would lose his seat, just as I doubt Lieberman will lose his. They'll both simply become independent candidates. They'll stop pretending to be something they're not. It would be a win-win fer everyone involved.

So, when is McCain up for re-election?
