Dear Speaker of the House Pelosi,
I am a drilling reservist for the Navy that will soon be feeling the effects of the current empasse detailed in the emergency war spending bill. The funding for my September drill has already been redirected to the Army withy August's drill funding soon to be reallocated. If something is not put forward that will be passable to the President soon more than just reservist drill pay will have to be redirected. Next to come will be support services and many people may lose their jobs.
Now I'm not writing to pester you to give in to the President. I wouldn't have bothered if I didn't think there is a possible solution to this standoff. There is a viable solution that should satisfy those that want to "stay the course" and those that want a timetable for withdrawal.
We are all well aware that the President will veto anything coming from the legislature setting a definitive timeline for withdrawal. This point has been proven. However, if this timetable came from the Iraqi government itself he should have no recourse but to follow the will of the freely elected Iraqi people. Presently, there is such a bill being worked on that will more than likely pass the Iraqi legislature in some form or another. Current rumors state that this will be a "non-binding" resolution but you can do more with it and solve the standoff at the same time.
All you have to do is tie the emergency war spending bill to the timeline set forth by the Iraqi government. Simply make it so the milestones set forth in the Iraqi bill are required to be enforced by the U.S. Government. This will enable the house and senate with a descript timeline and will also provide the president with a method of "following the will of the Iraqi people". It would be a win-win situation in my opinion.
Thank you for your time,
Respectfully,
Jeremy H. Bol
