Yep, that's my prediction for the primaries. I'm sure there's a dozen other scenarios people will come up with, but these are the two people I believe will be going head to head. I have absolutely no idea who their running mates will be though. That position is completely up for grabs.
Barack Obama
I'm sure I've just made half the planet (or at least half the people who look at this site) tilt their heads and look at me like I'm an alien. No, I don't think Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic choice for president. If they do they are dumber than dumb can be. We need to be honest with ourselves here. Hillary has more political baggage than even Sampsonite can contain. She's a walking indictment. The only other candidate in the democratic arena that stands a political chance is Obama. He may not have the experience, but he's got a tongue made of silver. And that's what the Democrats like to hear. As far as I see it he's the only Democrat that has a chance at winning.
Fred Thompson
This election cycle has seen it's fair share of Republican hopefuls. McCain's out acting like a grumpy old man. Rudy's got such a sexual history Larry Flint might do a movie on him. And if John Kerry is the wafflehouse waffler then Mit Romney is the Ihop flip flop flap-jacker. The field is so weak we'd be doing better running Reagan again. The only logical choice I can see it Thompson. He, like Obama, has a silver tongue. He's had experience in politics. And, he's an actor so his stage presence has been time tested. Besides, America has a pretty good track record with actors.
I could probably go into a dozen more reasons why I think it will be these two, but I'm not here to tell you how to think. There's plenty of people who'll do that for you in this world. I'm just here to put ideas on the mental buffett table.
Hollywood vs. The Real Deal.
No contest. Obama wins. Thompson is faker than the recently-brush-clearing socialite we have now. That tailored lobbyist rented a pickup truck for his senate campaign in order to improve his image, for cripe's sake.
If all we've got is an authoritative voice, we're in trouble.
Posted by: Nobody at June 26, 2007 12:20 AMDon't count Obama in yet. If he can be tied to Carter it'll be the same as tying a Republican to Bush. Obama is a "fresh face" with "new ideas" and "no political history", just like Carter. Remember how that turned out?
Have some hope man.
Posted by: Jeremy H. Bol at June 30, 2007 04:01 PMDid you see Obama's 2Q numbers? $31M and 260K. Both numbers are records, and almost matched Giuliani and Romney combined.
Posted by: Nobody at July 3, 2007 10:10 PMYes, Carter won, and America lost. That's what I was driving at.
Campaign money does not always equate to votes. It does, however, mean we'll be seeing a whole lot more of Mr. Obama. You're right though. He's definitely not going to be a pushover candidate. The only way to really dent him is to point out his actual politics.
