I am really, really pissed, upset, stressed, infuriated, bewildered, distraught, disoriented and a little bit cold.
On Friday I recieved my job offer. I'm being promoted from Information Assurance Engineer to Information Assurance Team Lead.
I'm also getting a pay cut and a reduction in benefits. I'm getting slapped in the face. Nothing personal, just a big company looking to save a few bucks buy cutting costs to look good for their board of trustees. It happens every day.
I'm not at all happy, but I'll take what I can get. Truth be told, almost everyone is getting a pay cut. Morale has effectively gone from 60-0 in one offer letter. It's survivable but definitely not pleasing in the least.
I think my wife said it best: "You guys got Punk'd".
[..and if my company is watching take note that I have not mentioned your name and will not do so. I have no intention of defaming you. I'm just not happy at the moment.]
Posted by aakaakaak at May 2, 2005 07:03 PMWell that sucks.
O.T. (off topic): I just realized what's bugging me about your page design, aakx3. The towers. What's missing is the clear azure blue sky that was the backdrop to the horror in the foreground. What a gorgeous morning it was until about 5 minutes to 9.
Posted by: Tuning Spork at May 3, 2005 12:06 AMHey that's the pitts! I can understand your disappointment over this. It certainly is unfair.
How sad that companies can get away with treating good honest employees this way. Thank God you will still be able to survive financially.
I think the company is being penny wise and pound foolish; eventually their tactics will cost them personell, and work. People are unlikely to give as much to the company when they are being smacked around by the higher ups.
Posted by: Rachel Ann at May 3, 2005 02:44 AMWow, that does bite. But I can almost always find the good in things -- good thing that letter didn't include "here's 1-week's severence pay, sorry, but your services are no longer required."
Posted by: Ogre at May 3, 2005 07:38 AMBrother, you have my sympathy.
Remember, the economy will swing back into gear at some point. It is a two way street
The company that tries to get the most out of your for the least money may find that you've taken your skills somewhere else.
All the best to you.
Posted by: Gordon at May 3, 2005 08:40 AMI can understand the frustration brother. Hang in there.
If you want, you can relieve some of stress on the troll over at my site...if that'll make you feel better! :) cheer up!
Posted by: Jay at May 3, 2005 10:07 AMSend me your resume, I think I can help with some contacts...I have some friends that are pretty high up in the security world. and you can work from just about anywhere.
Not to mention that would teach them...
Bum deal, Jeremy, sorry to hear about that. Gotta love new management and things. Not.
Posted by: William Teach at May 3, 2005 05:27 PMNever let the bastards get you down. Keep the faith . . .
Posted by: Mustang at May 3, 2005 05:28 PMI'm sorry Jeremy. I'll pray for you.
Posted by: MissPatriot at May 3, 2005 09:46 PMThe promotion is a trick designed to get you to voluntarily terminate your previous contract and accept new terms on a new contract you did not agree with. Get advice before signing any document!
Posted by: at May 4, 2005 02:28 AMDont get skivvied to the nine, unless by the Skivvy Nines!
Posted by: at May 4, 2005 02:29 AMWell, what a rotten deal. Sounds like a bunch of morons tripping over a dollar to save a dime. It'll cost 'em in the long run, but in the short run you still got a pretty raw deal. Hope you're in better spirits soon.
Posted by: Patty-Jo at May 4, 2005 03:58 AMIll go dittos on "that stinks." I tried to put the other word but it bounced me back.
If we were socialsts, you could give yourself the pay cut.
