Drunk and Pissed

In case you haven't noticed I haven't been blogging much lately. Yes, part of it has to do with my job but that's not the whole deal. The whole deal has to do with my irritation at blissfull ignorance. I've been sitting here on my blog for the past nine months or so and I have yet to be able to crack the skull of one ignorant moonbat.

By moonbat let me clarify what I'm talking about. Anyone that believes what they are told without proof is a moonbat. Those that believe what Krugman tells them are moonbats. Those that worship the all ignorant Savage are moonbats. You're drinkin' down the Kool-aide like you know for a fact the alien mothership is coming to take you and your clone to a better planet. You're a bunch of retards.

You're not ALWAYS retards though. Some of you have moments of sanity. Take a good blog freind of mine for example. Yes, this person is a lib. Most of the time they can even form rational thoughts based on fact. As of late, however, this person has fallen in with the tin-foil-hat crowd. I'm not even going to get into specifics. Suffice to say, they do not source any of their information in fact but "so-and-so said it so it MUST be true." Well, I must say that whoever so-and-so is he probably has his own agenda and is lying to you. Just keep drinking your Kool-aide. You'll be fine.

Mostly it's the puppets that piss me off. You know who they are. Their posts normally go something like this:

OOOOoooOOOOhhh.. This guys article was soooo coool. It sums up everything about what's REALLY going on:
[insert worthless article with absolutely no fact but made to appear like some jerkoff's opinion really matters]
You see? It just sums everything up perfectly. Nothing more to say. I want to have Kos' (or Hindraker's) children.

Has anyone else seen this? Why the hell do these worthless pieces of blog exist? Has anyone told them to form their own friggin' opinions or become no better than cattle? I mean really, is it that hard to form your own thoughts?

What's even worse is that you can't get through to these people try as you might. I could site 1 gagillion resources that prove the "sooo cool" author to be wrong, but they refuse to listen to reason. What the hell am I blogging for? The reason I started doing this shit is to make a difference, to make people understand the truth. To get people away from the talking heads and use their own.

As far as I can tell everything I've written has been worthless. It has not made a difference in the world or the blogosphere. I have not been able to change one single solitary mind. Why should I keep this up? Why should I keep trying when nothing I do or say makes a difference?

Have I made a difference? I don't believe I have. I have never heard that I have. Have I changed anyone's mind about Social Security? Has someone's opinion of Bush changed because of words I have written? Do I make a difference to the blogosphere or should I just stop? Whould it make a difference?

I can sure understand how you feel Jeremy, but defeat is not who you are. There will always be some who will not listen to reason. It is not because you aren't presenting it correctly, but simply because they do not choose to know the truth. All we can do is present it. Remember the old saying about 'leading a horse to water?'
I hope you continue to post the truth because there are a lot of us who read your blog and learn from it. Don't let a few jackasses who
show their stupidity by arguing with facts and truth get you down. They aren't worth it.
Just keep up the good job you have been doing all along, and flip the jerks of like you would a mosquito. Ok?

One cannot change the minds of people whose minds are closed. One of the reasons I enjoy the blogosphere so much is that I'm sick to death of talking heads screaming at one another on the TV. Careful reflection on the written word seems to me a better way of considering how I feel or what I think (insert issue); I don't always agree with what I read, but I respect the writer's determination to say it. Writing is "self-expression," and our opinions have everything to do with how "we" think. You may never know if you've made a difference or not, but is that even the most important thing? If you have the gift for writing (and you do), then you should write; it's really that simple.

Semper Fi . . .

I would bet you that you are changing the minds of people who are reading but not commenting. I have a lot of readers but only a small percentage of them comment. Don't think your efforts are going unnoticed; sometimes it may seem as though you're talking to an empty room but it's not empty!!!

There are still reasonable people out there who recognize that what the MSM is handing them on issues like the War in Iraq is nothing but a pile of crap.

You described P.W.'s blog to a tee there, Jeremy - coincidence? I stopped by there about daily for a week or so, until I figured out it was just a Daily Kos mirror.

As for getting your Golden Moonbat... well, consider that ideological decision making is a process. You read and consider one thing; you read an consider another; you debate and test your analysis; you're exposed to new facts and reconsider your conclusions, etc. I'd wager that most of the things you've reversed your opinion on over the years didn't reverse all on one go. They probably drifted from one end to the other as a result of the process, and how much weight you gave to new information depended on which conclusion you were closest to at the time, and the strength of the argument.

In practical terms: stop expecting to make one person suddenly do a 180, and start realizing that you're moving people toward a conclusion, not carrying them there. They may get there, they may not, but they now have your information, and hopefully a strong argument behind it.

And flip them off, like Mountain Mama says. But not while you're driving, 'cause you can get a ticket for road rage.

And realize that many of them are not ignorant -- they are intentionally stupid and evil. Some honestly do believe that communism WILL work, if just the right people are in charge. Many of them really are so irresponsible that they NEED government and someone else to take care of them.

Keep trying to change their mind. As Cao mentioned, hopefully some who aren't reading are the ones who will read and process the information. I get very few comments on my daily posts about the NC Legislature, but I know people are reading them -- hopefully some seeds of doubt will be placed. I don't know, but I'm hoping.
