I'm sure everybody out there in blogistan already knows what great blog design Ogre and I do. If you don't know you should. In fact, take a look at my latest work: American Dinosaur. Would you believe that only ran a meager twenty-five bucks?
The other day I was driving home from work and heard about another failed bombing attempt in England. The bomb was attached to some guy on a bus. It made a loud bang and smoke billowed out of it. Luckily, it did not go off. The terrorist (For those confused by the word "terrorist", just imagine the word "insurgent" in its place.) realized his mission had failed and ran off the bus.
Maybe it was the hour (5:30AM) or maybe they started talking about the weather or something, but I trailed off into my own thoughts. At first I was happy that no one was injured. Nobody died, that's a good thing. The next thing I thought about was how these bastards are running rampant over there. I offhandedly blamed the government's inability to quell the hate speech imams over in England and was about to pay attention to the news again and just roll on home when another thought hit me.
I had suddenly come to the realization that an entire busload of Britoners had looked a known terrorist in the face and firmly planted their collective thumbs up their asses. Did they not realize that a terrorist had just attempted to kill them all? Were they so afraid of the terrorist that they all stood there paralyzed with fear of him? Maybe they're just so apathetic about things they have truly become a nation of sheeple? I do not know why or how they had failed their duties to defend their country but a great opportunity for all of them was missed.
I then turned to myself in contemplation of what I would do in a situation such as this. Surely the individual in question would be mauled almost instantly in America. I'm sure the biggest problem would be keeping him alive long enough for the authorities to arrive. Would we just hold him down? Would we simply kill him? Would we pummel and torture him without regard for what would happen to us? At the time I was thinking these thoughts I had hoped that I would try and torture him into divulging something. As I reflect on this today I'm pretty sure I would simply sit on his chest until the paddy wagon showed up.
I'm sure there are those out there willing to defend these people that failed to detain him. I'm sure some would say that I would have done the same thing as these other people and stood immobilized. To these people I say you may be right. I have never been in such a situation and do not fully know how I would react to it. I would hope I could at least make the simple declaration that may spur others into action: TERRORIST!
...are they really that apathetic?
If you roll on over to my sitemeter you will notice that I have around 29,500 hits since I started it rolling. I was hoping this little number could move up to 30,000 (only 500 more) by or on August 3rd. That shouldn't be too hard considering that's nine days away. at about 60 hits per day I should be there with no problems.
Now, what's so important about August 3rd? Ask around, maybe Jane would know. She was my cherry popper after all.
Before I get into this I feel the need to preface this with the fact that I take no political funds for my voice. I have never received any funding from groups like Media Matters, unlike Daily KOS, MyDD or Eschaton.
The reason I feel the need to declare this is that all three of these blogs have decided to report the exact same story in the exact same way. Their belief is the reason John Roberts was nominated on Tuesday was to try and take some heat off on Karl Rove's "illegal disclosure" of a CIA operative. In my opinion this is either painfully stupid or these three headline bloggers have been bought off.
It is no secret that Karl Rove is a favorite target of those from the left. They would do almost anything to get him removed. This laughable non-scandal is only the most recent assault on reality. I'm sure some of you are still convinced that "Rove is the leak". Let me explain how this is completely impossible.
In order for Rove to be guilty of illegally leaking the name of a CIA operative he would have had to of given the name of a CIA operative that was an ACTIVE CIA operative. For anybody interested in reality Plame had NOT an operative for several years prior to the fiasco. In fact, she was quite proud of the fact she was an analyst for the CIA. I fail to understand how what Rove did could be considered either an outing or illegal. Are we now going to allege that he said or did something else?
Still on the leakage issue, I believe there is something else we missed. Wasn't the original reason the two journalists were brought to trial over a cover company for the CIA being ousted and not some analyst? Couldn't the Rove non-story be a cover for the real illegal leak? I would believe that to be the more likely story.
So what purpose would making a ridiculous accusation serve? The only purpose I see is the fact that no one really has any good dirt on John Roberts. As far as I can see the Democrats et. al. are hoping for something to come out of the dumbass questions they'll be asking in the near future. Besides, I'm pretty sure everybody knows this fight to come has absolutely nothing to do with Roe V. Wade.
It appears someone has discovered the wonderful misrepresentations of the time (dis)honored tradition of a site called Iraqi Body Count. It appears that they're going to be issuing some sort of press release/dossier crap shortly. Someone asked me to report on this further but I went to his site and he'd already done such a good job of tearing their house of cards down all I have left is a snippet and a link:
Aha! So every old lady whose poo wasn't properly disposed of is a "casualty of coalition forces."
NOTE: It appears Mike may be dissolusioned about McCain. We shouldn't hold it against him. Everybody needs to see the truth about things and if Mike has just discovered the worthless crap of a site listed above then we can wait a bit to explain how much of a lefty lap dog McCain really is.
...sombody remind me to blogroll this guy too. I see this guy going places.
Can anybody explain to me how some chick in Aruba rates about twelve notches more important than a terrorism bombing in London? I really hate to say it but for a change Savage is right. Looks like the media stuck so far up its ass in trying to stuff Rove for doing nothing that it can't report the news anymore. Anyway, back to Aruba Vs. London.
Has anybody NOT noticed that the lead suspect sounds like a yellowish liquid released from the body through the urethra? As far as I can recall Juran is indeed pronounced URINE! Of course, that goes into the PISS-poor detective work on the little Dutch island. Anyway, I digress. We all hear way too much of the story for our own good.
Do you realize that the U.S. actually sent a fighter jet to Aruba to try and see if they could see any signs of the chick out at sea? Does anybody else want to kick someone squarely in the balls for sending a fighter jet, costing a crapload of money, to look for some missing person? It appears to me that the media are a bunch of publicity whores. Does anybody report real news anymore?..oh, I forgot. Real news doesn't sell.
/end rant.
Okay, so I take a week off blogging to collect myself and have a much needed break only to find that I've broken through to the other side. Sorry all; I'm no longer a Large Mammal. Through some weird vorpal wormhole of confusion plus six(C) I'm now a part of the monkey house. I don't know what I did over my blogging break to warrant the #80 position but I'm sure someone will "fix the glitch" soon.
In the past I have written things for the sole purpose of keeping updates on my site. I've tried to keep updated and insightful ideas on my blog in order to appease the masses; to keep people interested. Now that I've sort of evaporated from the scene for about a week I notice that no one made a single comment on my absence.
This is a good thing. This means there isn't anyone hanging on my every word. This means I'm only an occasional read for most who come here. This means I'm not inherently too significant in the blogosphere. This means I'm going to write whatever the hell I want, whenever the hell I want and I'm not going to care who I piss off in the process.
Will I piss off lefties? Hell yeah! Will I piss off righties? Absolutely! I'm just going to start telling it like it is and not care what happens anymore. If you're reading this please take note. I ain't sugar coating anything from here on out.
1. The Wide Awakes - Please take me off of the writing roster. I'm not quitting and I'll still do the updates and polls and stuff but I can't devote myself to pointed articles anymore. Don't worry; I can still fisk the hell out of a troll if I put my mind on it.
2. Blogcritics - A good portion of you are a bunch of good for nothing, hypocritical, self-serving, elitist, and liberal whores. I have two reviews to do and I doubt I'll be requesting anymore free products for review. You thought you had a problem culling the mindset of John Bambi-Neck you ain't seen nothing yet. I will no doubt be banned before the month is out by these "freedom of speech" preaching idiots.
3. Pumping Pixels - Because of this newfound freedom I'll be able to do a bit more web design. Remember, we work damn cheap. If you've already got the site the basic design is 25 friggin' bucks. Even the cheapest Internet bums can scrounge together 25 bucks. Help a foundling company in the blogsphere out and buy a design. If you think we ain't got what it takes just ask for references. We'll prove you wrong.
4. The blogosphere in general - There is no way in hell I can visit everybody's blogs on a regular basis. Just keeping up with the TWA sites would be a full time endeavor. (Speaking of which, TTLB has a nice aggregator for them HERE) If you have something really cool please e-mail me or leave a comment. I DO read every single solitary comment and e-mail that runs through this blog. You can rest assured I read what you e-mailed me. Yes, even all of your stuff Howard...unless it has to do with some effing casino website we've all been getting spammed with lately.
5. If anything I say or do on this blog hurts your sensitivities tough shit. I'm not writing to make you happy. I'm writing to express my feelings and if it offends you please take make the sincere effort to go piss up a rope. If you want to tell me that if I don't retract this opinion or that statement I'll no longer be your friend or you'll stop visiting then get the fuck out. If you're that fickle you were never a friend or true fan, just a fraud.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest you can take this for the pixels it's written on. If you don't believe these words just try me.
...we now return you to your regular scheduled blogging...
I was going to write a post about American double standards in politics. I really was. Expect that one for tomorrow morning. It'll get done, I promise. There was something a bit more pressing on my mind though.
Today I saw a link from Mustang talking about the We Are Not Afraid website being created. It's another one of those "send in your pictures" sites. Well, I'm not one to ignore the chance to thumb my nose at terrorism. If you haven't already seen it take a look in the top right portion of the screen where the WTC image used to stand.
I was going to write a post on this. I really was. It's just that Tran Sient put such a beautiful piece together on this I have no choice but to tell you to GO READ THE FACTS.
A side joke at work:
Carl Rove's Leak: Depends
Sorry all. It was a cheap shot I couldn't NOT take.
Something I'm wanting to do is put a small anonymous rating system on my posts. Something that would give me a better feel of what the people who read this site come here to read. With an anonymous rating system I think I might be able to draw some input from the lurkers that don't want to be known.
Here's the problem:
I can't find one. I'm sure I could set up a poll for every one of my posts but that could get pretty evil to manage. Does anyone have any ideas? Please?
It has been about two years since "shock and awe". We have created a seed of democracy in the heart of the Middle East. We have given Iraq free elections. We have deposed a truly evil dictator. We have prevented countless thousands from being tortured, raped and killed by a regime that is every bit as bad as Pol Pot or a Soviet Gulag. We have brought terrorism away from our doorstep and placed it firmly in the desert. We have placed terror at arms length. So what’s the problem?
Anyone who is familiar with a transitional phase in government will realize it is tumultuous. Forming a new government is almost never a peaceful event. Many good men and women die when a nation is being constructed. This is when Iraq’s government is still weak. It has been untested. There have been many trials and there will be many more to come. A stable nation doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time for things to happen. I hate to use the Germany example but well, it fits. We are still in Germany to this day.
On television we hear about how another bomb went off killing from one to many people. We have over 1,700 servicepersons dead in this war. I know that losing just one man or woman is a tragic loss but 1,700 is a rather small number of casualties for a war that has been “in a quagmire” for two years. Some would lead you to believe that our losses show a great hemorrhage in our ability to secure Iraq. In my eyes it is nothing more than a slow leak
Since I mentioned our casualties I should mention that the Iraqi people lose more than we do. They are targeted when they join the Iraqi military. They are targeted when they pray. They are targeted almost everywhere. We hear about it in the news quite frequently. It’s not just the Americans who are bleeding for the freedom of Iraq. The Iraqis are fighting and dying for their freedom as well.
So what is the cause of the remaining violence in Iraq? I would suggest that a good part of it lies with the fighting between the Sunni and Muslim factions. The Sunnis had power and now it’s with the Shi’ite majority. The Sunnis had grown accustomed to their power and will to anything within their power to retain it, including blowing themselves up. The Sunnis have found a friend in terror. They believe that the more they threaten and blow things up the more power they will be able to gain in their government.
Now, I’m sure you’ve heard people say that it’s not as bad as it seems. Well, to be point blank about it war is hell. It might even be worse than you think it is. People die, get beaten, and lose legs, eyes and minds on the battlefield. It is an ugly thing that that no one should ever have to endure but know many more will have to. Sometimes force is the only option available. How do you peacefully stop a cold-blooded, death-dealing dictator peacefully? You don’t because you can’t.
As we continue on with our operations the media continues to report the slowly climbing numbers. They’ve made sure the death knell rings on. The lives lost are very important pieces of news. At least the media will not forget them in their own special way. It gives America and the world a reminder of the sacrifices that are made. It reminds people that war is a very ugly thing.
Maybe it’s just me but I’ve noticed surges and drops in the insurgency in Iraq. They seem to coincide with the good and bad news that happens in the media. When Abu Ghraib was reported there was a sharp increase in terrorist actions. When the elections went off without any major happenings there was a sharp decrease in terrorist activity. It went back up again after the fake Qu’ran flushing story came out. I have come to the conclusion that good news kills terrorism and bad news makes it grow.
World War II is considered the best war that America has ever fought. We were fighting an evil man with no compare. The cities cheered us when we took them. American and Allied soldiers were heroes with no thought to torture and abuses. I’m here to tell you it’s a façade. Have you ever heard of carpet-bombing? Mustard gas? Maybe the atomic bomb rings a bell? We did some very bad things to people, military and civilian, in order to restore freedom to Europe. So why then is it perceived that WWII was our best war? There was no real media coverage.
If we take a look at media coverage and the history of war we find that the first full-fledged battle coverage started with Vietnam. Vietnam was not a pretty war. However, it was probably better than WWII. Less people died in Vietnam. Fewer people came back with horrible disfigurements and other ailments. Strangely though, this was the first real loss for America. The hearts and minds did not seem to be in this war for the winning. It was a half-hearted effort by our government and fought tooth and nail by the Democratic Party just as they’re fighting tooth and nail today. Where does congress get its information from for the most part? The news. Is it possible that the free press mad a major contribution to our loss in Vietnam? It’s definitely possible.
I’d like to see what would happen if they tried changing their tactics on how Iraq is covered. Id like to see the effect it would have if they were to start reporting things that are positive in Iraq. Do you think it would matter that power usage is up 28 percent as Iraqis continue to buy more appliances that they could not do under their previous economy? Would it matter that the Army Corps of Engineers built two power plants from scratch? Would it matter that Iraqi schools are now better supplied and they ever were under Saddam? I believe it would.
I’m not saying to sugarcoat the news. A death of a service member is news. There’s no way around that. It is sad but it happens. I’m saying to try and report more than just the bare minimum. Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember and equal time clause to news reporting. How about giving equal time to the good things going on in Iraq?
Until the main stream media starts reporting anything good that is happening in Iraq we as bloggers have a purpose. We can shine the light on the big picture of what is happening in Iraq. We can report more than just death and failure. We can be more like Arthur Chrenkoff and report some good news from Iraq for a change.
I have nothing personal I can add to the terror attacks in London that would be significant. Suffice to say that for many people this matches the level of abhorrence reached during The World Trade Center attacks and Spain’s bombing. England has now had it’s own 9/11. It would be pointless to go into descriptions of haw many died and/or were injured. I cannot speculate as to the precise individuals responsible either. At this point all I can do is present the Middle East countries that have denounced this act.
Saudi Arabia states that all Arab countries need to step up against terror:
Riyadh "reiterates that ... the international community must step up efforts to combat the terrorism scourge, which now threatens our security and the security of all our peoples," the source said.
Yemen expresses full solidarity with England:
Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Baker al-Kurbi stressed that the "Yemeni government and people denounce such acts which target innocent civilians.""The Yemeni people express full solidarity with the British people and the government approves any measures to be taken by our British friends in squashing terrorism," he added.
United Arab Emirates makes a condemnation:
In the United Arab Emirates, Deputy Prime Minister Sheik Hamdan bin Zayed al-Nahyan said, "the UAE condemns strongly such ugly crimes and declares its full solidarity with the British government."
Syria and Lebanon made statements against the attacks:
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad called the attacks as "despicable" while Lebanese President Emile Lahoud said his country "shares Britain's pain."
The Lebanese president went on to say:
"Terrorism is an evil that opposes human values and principles. Lebanon, which was the victim of violence for many years, shares the sufferings of the British people," Lahoud said in a statement.
Israel has offered trauma assistance:
The Israel Psychotrauma Center of Jerusalem's Herzog Hospital immediately offered the British assistance in helping trauma victims of the terror attacks.A team headed by psychologist Dr. Danny Brom went to New York after the Twin Tower terror attacks, Turkey after their earthquakes, Beslan in the former Soviet Union after the terror attack on a school and Southeast Asia in the wake of the deadly tsunami.
Palestine's many factions condemned the bombings:
joined an unbroken chorus of condemnation, as did the Palestinian Authority, the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and Lebanon's Shi'ite Muslim Hizbollah guerrillas.
Iran believes violence is not the answer:
In Tehran, a spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry, Hamidreza Asefi, expressed his condolences for the victims and their relatives and said terrorism was inappropriate for achieving any aims.
Kuwait claims these terror attacks are against all human norms:
Kuwait denounced the "terrorist" attacks in a letter to Blair from Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who is currently in the United States."These terrorist attacks which target innocent lives are against all human norms and values," the Kuwaiti premier said in the letter.
Turkey pledged their cooperation:
Turkey, another Middle East victims of terror attacks, denounced the attacks and pledged cooperation in the fight against terrorism, said Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul.
Afghanistan calls it a despicable attack:
The Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, said he was shocked by the news, which he said was a "despicable attack".
Pakistan condemns the attacks:
"It is with a sense of profound grief that, I have learnt of the shocking news of the explosions in Central London, bringing injury, death and devastation to innocent people," President Musharraf said. "We strongly condemn this act terrorism."
Iraq gives a warning:
Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said the explosions that hit London proved that terrorism was an global plague that could strike anywhere. "What is happening in Iraq can happen in any country," Talabani, whose country is the scene of daily insurgent bombings, said."I'm telling my Arab brothers that terrorism today in Iraq will tomorrow affect other Arab countries, as has already happened in Yemen and Saudi Arabia."
As an additional note, China has condemned these attacks as well:
"Anyone who launches terrorist attacks and causes casualties of civilians should be resolutely condemned, regardless of his or her purpose," Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao said.
It appears that all of the governments have shown their heartfelt sympathies. It could be that the news is so saturated with this story that the voices of imams everywhere are not being heard over the leaders of countries, but I was unable to locate any quotes by any religious leaders save for the pope. I'm fairly confident this is simply a reporting oversight.
Teddy *hic* Kennedy has formulated a plan to get us out of Iraq. After a long period of time about whining how we have no exit strategy Teddy has shown us all how to to it properly. After all, he has experience with this sort of thing.
Answer below the fold.
Okay, Mustang. Your turn.
My cousin sent me a little tidbit of information that I just had to check and see if it was just an Internet rumor. I found out it was fact. Here is the quote she sent me:
Doctors: (A) There are 700,000 physicians in the U.S. (B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians total 120,000 per year. (C) Accidental death percentage per physician is 0.171.Guns: (A) There are 80 million gun owners in the U.S. (B) There are 1,500 accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups. (C) The percentage of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.0000188.
Statistically, then, doctors are 9,000 times more dangerous to the public health than gun owners. Fact: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR. Following the logic of liberals, we should all be warned: "Guns don't kill people. Doctors do."
Being the little fakt chequer that I am I went to the almighty Google. I ended up running across this article from Nathan Tabor of The Conservative Voice. It was printed in The Canada Free Press January 4th, 2005. Nathan managed to pull out a few golden nuggets about gun control hype that you should really take a peek at. Go Read.
Of course, I've always got to look at things from a different angle. I'm going back to the 17.1% of doctors causing accidental deaths. Is there any wonder why we have a malpractice suit problem in this country? I don't believe that Bush's solution of putting up a $250,000 pain and suffering cap really got to the root of the problem.
Are you aware that if you are kicked out of the AMA in one state for shoddy doctoring all you have to do is move over to the next state? In my eyes a crappy doctor that got his or her degree from a Cracker Jack box could "accidentally" kill 50 people before they're done. Can't the American Medical Association pull their collective heads from their back ends and catch the bad doctors and bar them nationally? How about we try to make a federal mandate?
Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why this 17.1% statistic exists? Did I miss some critical fact? Does this include all the bad prescriptions written due to the forced drug pushing procedures enacted by drug companies?
Whatever the deal, the next time I get sick I just may be going down to the local gun range. I might be safer there.
This article is also available at BNN.
Today I have a dilemma. It's the same dilemma I've had for a few days now. It's basically the main reason I haven't been posting much...that and my newfound World of Warcraft addiction.
The deal is that there are just too many stories I could be ranting about that I'm locked up cold. I can't pick one and just go with it. So here I am, asking you, my few readers, what I should write about:
1. Who should be the next Supreme Court Justice?
2. Democrat says Gulag = Censure. Republican says some liberals too sensitive to terrorists needs = RESIGN! Do we have a double standard here?
3. File swapping companies can now be sued.
4. Eminent Domain. Need I say any more?
5. The real torturers at Gitmo: the detainees.
6. why Iraq is STILL NOT Vietnam.
7. What should we do with the filibuster?
8. Now that I covered boobies should I move on to other body parts?
9. Atkins is worthless and doesn't f**king work!
10. The best option for known terrorists: Hire mercenaries.
Well, I could probably go on for a good ten more, but these are the most pressing. I'd talk about borders but it's sort of a moot point considering no one one either side of congress really gives a rat's ass about it.
So here I sit, waiting for someone to steer me in the right direction. Someone please guide me.
Happy 4th Of July Everybody!
Today will be an assembly of patriotic pictures in on big fat stinkin' blowout extravaganza! It's gonna be one big blur of red, white and blue so hold on to your shorts!
First things first:
Amy from ProcheinAmy sent me a picture that started it all off. Really, she visits this place quite frequently and I really owe it to her just for reader loyalty's sake. Anyway, here's the first picture of Amy's girls at a "Support The Troops" rally:
Now that we have the image that started today's idea off, here's a bunch more with the links of where I got them from:
This one taken from the city of Henderson's website. I have no Idea what state.
This one is from The Community Foundation in Richmond, Virginia:
Here are two from Ben Stokeman's personal family site:
Here's a canned image from some power and electric company called SRP:
This one is taken from Schiezer's Gallery:
The Akiba Academy had a mock presidential convention. Since it's a Hebrew academy it's sort of obvious who won: John F. Kerry. Yeah, I thought Lieberman was going to win as well.
(Looking through the images I notice that their Kerry representative was played by "the hot chick".)
This one is from The Ranch FM 92 in Fredricksburg. Is there something about Virginia that just screams patriotism?
Here's one from Steward Army base when the president came for a visit:
Here's the caption from here: LINK

Anybody wondering why only thirteen? Yes, everyone get's a cookie. Thirteen original colonies.
Now I have a challenge:
I've given you the first 13 I need the other 37 for the rest of the states. If we get more than 37 I'll include Guam and Puerto Rico and whatever other contries we're close to.
C'mon People!
Send me your Pictures!
Link me your Pictures!
14. I'm linking directly to Jess at LOSLI for this extra one. call it D.C. if you want. You'll see why I didn't steal the image once you're there. Let me just give you the caption:
I solemly swear to protect the flag.
Even if I have to lay my body over it to protect it from harm
15. Here's one e-mailed to my from EIP:

17. William Teach over at The Pirates Cove has a good pinup. We have the same situation here as we did with LOSLI. I won't take the image bot give a link.
18. Amy, the instigator of this whole thing has more patriotic pictures to share. Here's one more from Amy at ProcheinAmy:
On Friday, the girl's day care had a 4th of July Parade. Luckily my anti-MIL and FIL were able to get pictures. The parade route took a whopping 10 minutes as they walked around the school. And they went all out for those 10 minutes. Hats, decorations, noise makers and a bunch of kids and teachers in red, white and blue! (Oldest was sick that day, so no pictures of her.)
19. Gordon, over at Cranky Neocon has a message from Brian Williams. I'm not sure who Brian Williams is so I'll let you go ask him yourselves. LINK

Happy 4th of July everyone! Happy 229th aniversary of the Declaration of Independence! Happy Independence Day!
No, he did not leave her. He went to a better place. No amount of words can convey the grief that she is more than likely feeling. I can only imagine how it must feel.
If you wish to leave your heart you can go to her site, An American Housewife, or you can go the Beth's place, MVRWC and donate.
I wish her and her family my deepest condolences.
